Thanks for sharing this. I attended (actually videotaped http://bit.ly/PostAcuteCare ) a presentation earlier this month about hospital admissions/discharge and post-acute care. I hadn't realized that PPS hospitals are paid from "a pre-established payment linked to the primary reason for admission" and that "this money must cover all of the care for the stay."
I'm wondering if "primary reason for admission" is communicated by ICD codes, and if so, what if any effect the upgrade from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will make in these payments?
